Coaches: The Passion Creators or Destroyers
Madison Trout's open letter to a coach who made her hate the sport she loved
I came across an article in Odyssey and it really struck a chord. It’s an open letter written by Madison Trout to one of her coaches. I tried finding her details online but the only thing that could find was that she played basketball till high school
The open letter: Read Here
A good coach (a mentor in one’s life?) could easily make or break a person. Madison found that out the hard way. All the good work put in by her and coaches she had through the course of her life was ruined by one bad coach.
The constant belittling and insults will inevitably take a toll on a person.
“When a passion dies, it is quite possibly the most heartbreaking thing ever. A desire you once had to play every second of the day is gone, it turns into dreading every practice and game.”
- Madison Trout
It makes you wonder why people have to hate on others. Aren’t we supposed to help each other up? Has negative reinforcement or ‘tough love’ ever worked?
“You can have winning records without a good coach if you have a good team, but you won't have a team if you can't treat players with the respect they deserve.”
- Madison Trout
The above quote really hits hard. No matter what, a leader really can make or break a team.
Rohith’s Corner:
I finally managed to watch a movie in PVR Director’s Cut in Bengaluru and I think I am now spoiled! I don’t think I can go back to the normal theatres anymore. The swanky theatre is a sight to behold. The tickets are usually Rs.1000+ but we managed to get one for Rs.350 (it was a week day and was raining as well. So, less demand?). Like any PVR, we did spend more on confectionaries than on movie tickets. The movie was okay-ish (Fall Guy was counting on Ryan and Emily’s chemistry to carry the movie) and I spent the entire run-time playing with the seat controls and munching on lacklustre popcorn.
